Good Neighbour & PhoneLink

Sometimes life can be difficult for people as they get older. As they become frailer, it becomes more and more difficult to carry out those every day tasks, and get out and about on their own. But this is where our Good Neighbour volunteers can help.

We have volunteers in the boroughs of Crewe & Nantwich and Congleton, who offer their time, skills and talents to help older people as a good neighbour might. They help in many ways.

Perhaps they might:-

  • visit someone for a cup of tea and a chat
  • help by collecting a prescription or a pension
  • take someone by car to visit the dentist, doctor, optician or chiropodist
  • help with light shopping
  • change a light bulb or do some other simple practical task

It all depends on what help is required.

Our Good Neighbour volunteers also help at our various social and luncheon clubs, by providing transport, helping with activities and providing refreshments.

Our PhoneLink volunteers come to our offices in Crewe and Middlewich, on a rota basis, to telephone housebound people for a regular chat and to see if all is well.

In this way

  • older people are helped to continue living at home
  • volunteers make new friends; do something rewarding and worthwhile
  • and everybody has fun!
