Volunteer Mentoring

Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, Age Concern Cheshire is offering a new mentoring service for those people in receipt of Direct Payments who find keeping financial records confusing and daunting.

Volunteer Mentors will also be able to offer help and support with day to day money management problems.

What Is Mentoring?
Mentoring is a one-to-one, non-judgmental relationship in which an individual voluntarily gives time to support and encourage another. The Mentoring Service can help:-

  • Provide help and support to people receiving Direct Payments,
  • Provide support to people who are interested in using Direct Payments,
  • Provide ongoing support whenever it is needed,
  • Visit service users in their own homes.

What Can A Volunteer Mentor do?
A volunteer mentor can help with the following tasks:-

  • Help you set up day to day management systems,
  • Help you keep your Direct Payments bookkeeping up to date,
  • Help and support you with any money management problems you might have

Who can be a Volunteer Mentor?
Mentors are volunteers who range in age usually from 18 upwards . A mentor should be:

 
  • Positive
  • Reliable
  • A good listener
  • Interested
  • Approachable
  • Non-judgmental
  • Realistic
